Welcome to Mindset: Neurofeedback training and research

Finding a new state of feeling and processing through neuronal self-regulation and re-education of the brain (Thomas F. Collura2014).

What is neurofeedback training?

Neurofeedback training allows us to measure and map brainwave activity relating to negative symptoms, and train the brain to self-regulate these dysregulated brainwave activities. Brainwave patterns and activities differ from person to person, and is influenced by our genes and experiences. These brainwave patterns are expressed as our personalities, relationships and behaviour. As these brainwave activities are influenced by experiences, negative experiences related to trauma or stress may dysregulate brainwave activities over time and result in negative symptoms and dysregulated behaviour in our daily lives.

During neurofeedback training sessions, computer software provides the client with instantaneous visual and auditory feedback regarding brainwave activity, allowing the client to become conscious of how changes in brainwave activity relates to changes in behaviour and mental states. Self-awareness and self-regulation thus lies at the core of neurofeedback training.

Do you struggle with the following symptoms?

  • Attention and learning symptoms: Inattentiveness, impulsivity, hyperactivity, motivation, poor concentration, fidgeting
  • Emotional and behavioural symptoms: Anxiety, depression, anger management, ruminative thinking, performance anxiety, low self-esteem
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Pain symptoms: Migraine

What to expect

Initial Meeting

In our first meeting we determine your goals. Before this meeting, you will be sent a package containing checklists and questions to complete and return to us before our first meeting. During this meeting we will work through and discuss your answers, in order to determine the best approach to achieve your personal goals.

Assessment and Brain mapping

The neurocognitive assessment will take place in the form of a quantitative Electroencephalograph (qEEG), in which 19 electrodes will be placed on your head and your brainwave activity will be recorded. This information will allow us to determine how your brainwave activities relates to your goals, and how best to approach neurofeedback training for your specific goals.

Training sessions

After we have established the most effective protocol for your specific goals, the training sessions will commence. During these sessions, electrodes will be placed on your scalp which will read your brainwave activity in real time, and give you instantaneous visual and auditory feedback. As training is an active process, it requires repetition. The more the client practices attaining a specific mental state related to specific brainwave patterns, the easier that mental state will be achieved in other contexts.
